1.1 Background of the Study
Mental health remains a stigmatized topic in many societies, including Nigeria. Films have emerged as a transformative medium for addressing this stigma by raising awareness and fostering empathy. By portraying mental health challenges and recovery stories, films can influence public attitudes and encourage supportive behaviors (Garba & Ahmed, 2024). In Jos East Local Government Area, Plateau State, the use of films to address mental health awareness is particularly relevant, as it helps bridge gaps in understanding and reduces stigma.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite increased advocacy, mental health stigma persists, hindering individuals from seeking help and receiving support. Films have the potential to change public perception, but there is limited research on their effectiveness in rural and semi-urban settings like Jos East (Yusuf & Ibrahim, 2023). This study examines how films shape public attitudes toward mental health in this area.
